The story

One of our own

Townhill and Mayhill

Moses grew up in Townhill and Mayhill, above Swansea, in an area that has been deprived for a long time. His heritage is Jamaican and German. Growing up he was bullied, and he faced racism. He credits boxing with changing that. He does not dwell on it, and neither will this page.

What he says he took from it is a job to do rather than a grievance:

I’m bringing the culture, I’m bringing diversity, I’m bringing unity, I’m bringing character.

The roof and the ring

He works as a roofer alongside boxing. Not a gimmick and not a story someone else wrote for him — it is the job, and he sees the same craft in both.

Roofing is an interesting craft. It’s kind of like boxing. You have to sometimes destroy it in order to recreate.

Moses Jolly

Twelve and none

As a professional he is 12–0, with 8 wins inside the distance. He has boxed live on Sky Sports, sparred Daniel Dubois, and in May 2024 appeared on the undercard of Lauren Price’s world title fight in Cardiff. In May 2026 he boxed Will Howe at Neath Sports Centre for the Commonwealth International Heavyweight title, went the full eight rounds, and took it on points.

He is the Commonwealth International Heavyweight champion, and he now fights under the Queensberry banner.

All of that off 3 amateur fights. Most men who reach a world-title undercard have a hundred behind them.

His manager is Mickey Helliet, who has been in the sport for four decades.

He has one of the best jabs I have ever seen, and I have been in boxing for 40 years.

The noise

Welsh crowds have their own call for him. It starts somewhere at the back of the hall and rolls forward — a long, rising “woo” that has the whole room by the time he reaches the ropes. Nobody organised it. It arrived with the people who travelled, and it goes up again every time he lands. A home ring walk in Wales is loud. His is a particular kind of loud.

What he is chasing

No boxer born in Wales has ever held a heavyweight world title. That is the whole ambition, and he states it plainly.

In boxing, I would like to be the first Welsh-born heavyweight world champion.

For anyone on the same streets

What he wants young people to know

Half the kids who come through the door at Crofty are from the same sort of streets he is. This is what he tells them.

Everyone has the potential to be great. Stop looking for outside external entities.

Coming from Moses

These four sections are being written by Moses himself. They are shown here as drafts so nothing gets invented on his behalf.

How I ate and trained growing up

Moses is writing this one himself — what training and eating actually looked like as a kid in Townhill, with no money and no plan.

Inside a fight camp

The weeks before a fight, in his own words: the sparring, the running, the sacrifice, and what the last seven days feel like.

What I eat now

A real day of food for a 6ft 6in heavyweight who also spends the day on a roof. To be filled in by Moses.

My training week

Monday to Sunday, session by session. To be filled in by Moses so people can see what the work honestly takes.
